My Approach

 

I am a Human Givens practitioner, which means I employ a new approach to counselling, see  
www.hgi.org.uk.  My aim is to offer brief solution-focused therapy, delivered in as few sessions as possible, depending on your issue. Rather than looking at negatives, I build on what is positive and what is already working for you. Together, we evaluate your skills, achievements and resources, to discover and affect happier, lasting, long-term changes.  

My approach to therapy is very practical. It's about giving you a simple, fundamental understanding of how the brain and the mind – your 'body system' – work, so you can better understand and self-manage your own reactions. 

What's refreshing about the Human Givens approach is that I can help you achieve positive changes from the very start of our time together. I use techniques to release unhelpful emotions and thinking patterns. I won't make you dredge up unhappy past memories. I want you to leave feeling better every time. You will leave me with a new understanding, knowledge or tool that will make you feel more in control of your life. 

 

And that's because I strongly believe that the answers we need are within us. It's about rediscovering your inner wisdom. Just like children, we are more susceptible to learning if we create our own solutions. Our imagination is a powerful tool. As an HG practitioner I use it to bypass the critical, logical part of the brain and go to the intuitive part where we embrace solutions and hope. For me, therapy is about empowering my clients so they can understand their emotional needs more and learn to nurture themselves.
